The most important climb of the whole Camino Português
Although it's only 17.4 km, this is one of the most demanding stages on the Camino Português: right out of Ponte de Lima, past the Church of Misericórdia and the Fonte das Três Bicas, the climb to Alto da Portela Grande de Labruja begins, gaining 315 m over 4.2 km on a pleasant wooded trail. It's the most important pass on the whole route, though with no technical difficulty.
After the pass, the Camino crosses Balada, Espinheiros and the beautiful Labruja landscape, before continuing through Arcozelo, Agualonga and São Roque to Rubiães, a small village with a surprisingly good range of pilgrim accommodation. Note: after Codeçal there are 9.2 km with no services, so carry water before the climb.

Getting there and back
If you're starting here: Ponte de Lima has regional bus connections with Viana do Castelo and Braga.
If you need to head back from Rubiães: the village has few direct connections; the usual option is heading to Ponte de Lima or Valença to connect with long-distance transport.
